Update

Just some random thoughts and funnies from the last little bit:

Jaydee told me this morning “Oh no someone is knocking on our door…. (dramatic pause)  is it someone scary??”

I laughed at Jaydee and then let Deedra in.

Scary is her new word or phrase.  The oddest things “scare her” lately.  The stick on the ground, her toys, being alone…  It is for attention but it is very funny.

She also told me the other day that she had to work so hard at Deedra’s house.  Deedra kept putting all the toys in the toy box and she had to get them all out.

Big houses are too heavy to buy… (Deedra is looking at a new home)

Why do big people wear white pajamas?

In the car driving, Jaydee tooted really loud.  We have been working on manners so I asked if she did it.  She replied “Yes… no Grandma did it.”

I got the kids new pajamas and Jaydee got really upset because she wanted blue dinosaur jammies.  I looked through and I had accidently gotten Hyrum a 3T instead of a 2T to grow into.  So Jaydee got those, she pranced around and declared those were her princess jammies.  A few weeks later the kids stayed the night with my mom and Jaydee threw a fit because Nana put her jammies on Hyrum.  She complained about it for 3 days.

Hyrum is scrunching up his nose when you look at him now, it is so cute.  He cruises everywhere and is really fast.  He is very hard to bathe because he won’t hold still and you  have to constantly catch him when he slips and falls because he is standing up in the tub.  He can’t figure out the walker, he can only go backwards.  He loves to let go and try to stand by himself.  He is 7.5 months old…  He loves food, and loves to feed himself with the baby mesh thingy.  He still loves his bottle and gets so excited if he sees you making it.  J

The kids are great.  Sam has a job next year, Arizona really needs to get their priorities straight.  It is ridiculous to cut education.  Any way enough of that rant.  So life is good.  I’ll post pictures soon.  My camera is very full.

Questions

Jaydee:  “Why is the moon up in the morning?”

Mom: It gets confused.

Jaydee: I don’t like that.  Why is the moon up in the morning?

Mom:  Well the earth spins in a circle and the moon goes around it and sometimes it can’t keep up.

Jaydee: Mmm, I don’t like that.

Mom: We will go to the museum and ask them.  (Anyone know a good children’s museum???)

Jaydee:  WHY IS THE WIND BLOWING?

Mom: It is Spring in Snowflake… Actually I said “It is blowing in a storm.”  (I had watched the weather on the news last night).

Jaydee: There aren’t any clouds. (I thought she said cows, because we were driving by the Johnsons where there are usually baby cows.)

Mom: Maybe he put them away.

Jaydee: Oh there are the clouds, is it raining over there.

Mom: Doesn’t look like there are enough clouds for rain yet.

Jaydee:  How does it snow?

Mom: The rain clouds get cold and freeze into snow, but it is not cold enough for snow.  (It is 51 degrees)

Jaydee: It is too COLD!

So, all the years of school and college have just been wasted.  I am not even smart enough to answer a 3 year olds questions.  Of course I was driving so I couldn’t even pull up google for a quick answer to some of these.  What questions do your kids ask?

I'm 3

Deedra just called to share these stories that I need to put on my blog:

Jaydee’s big thing lately is that she needs 3 of everything because she is “free years old” and she holds up her 3 fingers.

“I need 3 cookies because I’m free years old” and she holds up 3 fingers.  She uses this logic on how many more bites she has to take of her dinner also.  Well today at Deedra’s house Deedra told her to pick up her toys, she responded “I can’t I’m only 3.”  Deedra said Okay, but you won’t get a robin egg (candy to eat).  She looks at Deedra and in a very authoritative voice tells her “Deedra, every one gets a robin egg.”

She is so bossy and grown up sometimes, it cracks me up.  I also love her logic…I am always willing to hear her story and then I do make her tell the truth.

So the question of the day is… “Is my logic on disciplining crazy or do you think it may work in the long run?”

Logic - You must tell me the truth, but now tell me a good story/reason why you did that and then if I laugh hard enough you won’t get in trouble.  Mmm, it may prove for some great stories for a book some day. What do you think?

Don't cry over spilled milk

We get our milk and eggs from Sam's wonderfully ambitious brother who has a milk cow and chickens.  I love the fresh milk and eggs.  I had 2 gallons in lovely glass jars sitting on the floor of the passenger seat where they would be safe.  I picked up Sam at the grocery store...his hands are full of 5 bags full of veggies, bread and ice cream.  One of the jars is leaning against the door.  Sam opens the door and out spills the milk...Sam catches it with his knee and the door.  I dive across the seat and grab the milk jar.  But before i can pull the jar to safety, the lid falls off and one gallon of fresh milk spills all over the parking lot.  I did manage to save the jar... and I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.  So I cracked up laughing.  I am still sprawled across the seats and Jaydee yells, I want to see, I want to see!

So moral of the story...don't cry over spilled milk.

Easter Cookies

A friend of Sam's sent him this Easter Cookie recipe, we did it for FHE last night and it was a big hit with Jaydee.  I skipped the scriptures and did pictures because Jaydee likes pictures better with a story.

Plus the cookies are good too.

Easter Story Cookies

by Rachel Keller

A couple years ago, I discovered a recipe for Easter Story Cookies. I was intrigued with the idea and decided to try them out. What a wonderful opportunity this presented to further teach the truth of Easter.

Begin this recipe on Saturday, the day before Easter.

·          1 cup whole pecans

·          1 teaspoon vinegar

·          3 egg whites

·          pinch salt

·          1 cup sugar

·          zipper baggie

·          wooden spoon or a wooden meat hammer

·          duct tape or packing tape

·          Bible

Preheat oven to 300*F.

Place pecans in zipper baggie and let children beat them with the wooden spoon or hammer to break them into small pieces.

Explain that after Jesus was arrested he was beaten by the Roman soldiers. Read John 19:1-3.

Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 teaspoon of vinegar into the mixing bowl.

Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross he was given vinegar to drink. Read John 19:28-30.

Add egg whites to the vinegar. Eggs represent life.

Explain that Jesus gave his life to give us life. Read John 10:10-11.

Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste. Then put your pinch of salt in the bowl.

Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus's followers, and the bitterness of our own sin. Read Luke 23:27

So far, the ingredients are not very appetizing! Add 1 cup sugar to the bowl.

Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because he loves us. He wants us to know and belong to him. Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16.

Beat with a mixer on high speed for 10 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks form.

Explain that the color white represents the purity in God's eyes of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus. Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3.

Fold in broken nuts. Drop by teaspoons onto wax paper covered cookie sheets.

Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus's body was laid. Read Matthew 27:57-60.

Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and turn the oven OFF. Give each child a piece of tape to seal the oven door.

Explain that Jesus' tomb was sealed. Read Matthew 27:65-66.

Leave the kitchen. If you've been making these cookies just before bedtime, GO TO BED!

Acknowledge that the kids are probably sad that they've worked hard to make these cookies, and now have to leave them in the oven overnight. Explain that Jesus' followers were in sad when Jesus died and the tomb was sealed. Read John 16:20 and 22.

On Easter morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Ask the kids to notice the cracked surface. Have them bite into the cookies. The cookies are hollow!

Explain that on the first Easter morning, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. Read Matthew 28:1-9.

HE HAS RISEN!
