Why do you blog?

I was telling a friend about someone's blog that I had read and her comment made me stop and think. She felt that a blog was a sign of how we (mostly as women) try to come across as perfect. She felt a blog was a brag page of how perfect my life is.

I know people who use it for a journal.
I know those who have 2 blogs - one for the family journal and one to express their philosophies or thoughts.
I started mine as a focus on my blessings, it has turned into more of a journal. And yes a brag page on Jaydee, but every mother likes to brag about her children. :)

I love to read and catch up with old friends who I probably wouldn't see or catch up with. I have found friends from high school and caught up with their lives.

So is my friend right? Do we all suffer from trying to be perfect? Or is her comment a sign that she is insecure about technology? Or something else all together. So why do you blog?

my sole purpose is so family and friends can keep up with what is going on with us. so many times my mom will ask whats new? and my usual answer is awww nothing really...and we hear from richs parents about once a month by phone but since i started the blog they check it nearly every day...those two families alone keep me blogging. i dont think we intend for it to be a bragging session but mostly what we post is happy news...things that are important to us and to the kids. happy times are much funner to talk about then sad or depressing things. i think its just in most peoples nature to want to share the good things in their lives

I don't know whose blogs your friend has been reading, but maybe she should read a few more. I started blogging so my sister and I can keep track of the fun things in each others daily lives. I've noticed that we like to share the cute and funny things our kids do. Doesn't it make you smile when you see happy kids doing funny things or hear another mom talk about funny things that her kids do and you think, I remember when my babies used to do that? I also noticed that on the computer we are not so afraid to admit our faults and failures. I think we want to hear from other moms that embarrasing things happen to them too. We are not all perfect and I have found blogging helps me to realize that I am only human, and that there are many things I can do better. Lots of moms have great ideas. Sorry for writing such a long comment, but you asked.

I agree that blogging is to keep in touch with others. And maybe we put on our blogs mostly good things that happen in our life doesn't that help us remember our blessings. Sometimes we need more help remembering the good things that happen in our life.

I blog because I and my family are the most perfect people on earth and I want to brag, brag, brag about it! Try not to be too jealous. But seriously, blogging helps me keep better track of what's going on in our life. I'm so much better at remembering to take pictures now that I blog. And it's also a great way to keep in touch with my family and friends.

I love Jeanette's comment! LOL!

I totally agree with you Vandee! I think blogging is a great way to keep in touch and a wonderful way to journal.

I try to be very honest in my blogging....if my day was crappy....you'll know it....if my kids are driving me crazy....you'll know it....but you'll also know about the funny things my kids say....how I feel about them growing up and whatever other random thought comes across my mind that I feel like writing about.

Like every other technological thing, I think we have to be careful to use our blogs in a positive way...

Before I read the previous comments I wrote down some of the main reasons I blog so I wasn't influenced by other's thoughts. I initally started to blog because I didn't keep a journal...this is the perfect way to keep a word/photo journal. I also blog to stay connected with my friends and family. I love having feedback and feeling like they are a part of my everyday life. As for conveying that I have a perfect life...not so. I want to focus on my blessings but I also keep it REAL. I don't blog to impress others.

It's a journal, pure and simple. It's easier to keep than trying to sit down in my busy house and find 5 minutes to write. With blogging, you can start, then stop, then start without really having to remember where you left off. You can erase, and no one is the wiser...
I like to read other's blogs, and I can get a sense of who they are and not feel alone in my trials...
